Kohler, Manuel

Manuel studied at the universities of Heidelberg and Northumbria, Newcastle, UK and graduated with a M.Sc. in Medical Informatics. In his master thesis he dealt with the statistical analysis of Affymetrix data and the exploration and assessment of gene group effects. Before working at the CISD he worked three years as a System and Database Administrator for the bioinformatics company Genedata AG based in Basel. Being responsible for several Oracle databases he qualified as an Oracle Certified Associate in 2008. In 2009 he joined CISD and works as a Life Science Application Specialist on open source sofware solutions engineered to manage large volumes of high-throughput data from biology.
He also works closely together with the in-house Quantitative Genomics Facility (QGF) on deep sequencing data generated by an Illumina HiSeq 2000 and an Illumina Genome Analyzer IIx. This includes quality assessment, visualization using R/Bioconductor, Java and Python-based software and different alignment and base calling algorithms.
