Franz-Josef completed his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt. For a period of more than 10 years, he did research in nonlinear dynamics and dissipative pattern formation at San Diego and Basel. In the last 10 years he worked as a software engineer in various companies including the bioinformatics company Genedata. Since more than three years, he gives lectures in software engineering at the University of Basel. At the beginning of 2007, he joined CISD as a senior software engineer
